La Specola

Cera del museo della Specola
The Museo della Specola, in Via Romana in Florence, is one of the sections of the Museum of Natural History in Florence. Particularly in this building (Palazzo Torrigiani) was the central core of the collections when the museum was founded in 1775 by Pietro Leopoldo and entrusted to the direction of Abbot Fontana. The idea was to bring together all the scientific collections present in the offices in a single 'scientific' venue, where research could also be carried out. In fact, at the specola there is an astronomical tower and a series of astronomical calculation instruments of the era of exquisite workmanship. The laboratory was in fact considered avant-garde. Currently it has especially zoological-naturalistic collections some of which still today really amazement.
