The Palace of Cosimo the Old one.

passi dalle chiese "protette" della Famiglia: San Lorenzo e San Marco
e ad altrettanti pochi passi dal Duomo. Il palazzo è imponente, sobrio
ed elegante, A pietre sporgenti al pian terreno che con l'innalzarsi
dei piani, diventano lisce ed appena incorniciate agli ultimi piani.
Su due lati, una panca di via, in uso molto comune a quei tempi per
praticità (permettere alla gente di sedersi) e ad anche per ragioni
estetiche. All'ultimo piano, l'attuale cornicione era sostituito da
veri e propri merli ed una loggia che attualmente è murata.
All'interno del palazzo, tra le numerose
decorazioni, da segnalare la cappella dei Magi, di Benozzo Gozzoli che
fu allievo di Beato Angelico, su commissione di Piero il Gottoso che
seguì direttamente la progettazione e lo sviluppo dei lavori (1459).
In effetti con i Magi questo dipinto non c'entra niente, come costume
dell'epoca si infilavano in rappresentazioni religiose i componenti
della famiglia e i personaggi politici dell'epoca che avevano "il
diritto" di esserci. Sul dipinto vi sono tra l'altro: Lorenzo il
Magnifico, suo padre, Piero il Gottoso ed il capofamiglia, Cosimo il
Vecchio. La natività sull'altare è solo una copia, l'originale si
trova al museo di Berlino.
Enrichments

The interest for the art and the taste of the beautiful
